Steve Trim emerged victorious in today's Sid Butler trophy, winning out over Andy Brown in the final.

The Sid Butler Trophy is a one-day tournament open to male bowlers at the Club which this year attracted 21 entrants. All seven rinks of the green were in use, with each entrant either playing or marking. Each match took place over six ends with all entrants guaranteed four matches drawn ahead of time. The green was a little damp early on but that quickly burned off and, while a downpour delayed the semis, that didn't spoil the day.

The morning's play ended in good enough time to play a quarter-final stage featuring the eight bowlers with the best records thus far.

From here, Steve took on Dave Clipsom in the first semi-final, winning 10-1; while Andy Brown had a close battle with Dave Bradbury in the other, emerging tiumphant on the final end.

Steve took his semi-final form into the final, winning the toss and never conceding the mat. After the fourth end, which Steve took by a single shot, he was 9-0 up and far enough ahead that Andy couldn't have made up the gap.

Stepping off the green, Steve said 'I didn't think I'd win like that, either over Andy or Dave in the semi! I got right into the groove and the woods just flowed into place for me. I'm delighted to have come out on top.'

With grateful thanks to those entrants who stepped up on the day to fill a couple of gaps following withdrawals, and to Mick Corden for organising and running the play on the day; and congratulations to Steve, Andy and two of our Daves, as well as to all bowlers for contributing to an exciting and enthralling day's bowling.
