Bowlathon - next weekend!

Excitement is building around the Club as we begin to make final preparations for our first-ever Bowlathon, which takes place on and around the green next Saturday (and Sunday!).

At the centrepiece is Brad Godden's attempt to bowl right around the clock - from noon on the Saturday until noon on the Sunday - ably supported by a cast of 37 other bowlers from the Club each taking different shifts throughout the 24 hours. The match will be a triples - Larks v Owls - and will be scored on a continuous basis across the entire period. Bowlers are reminded to read Glen Peters' risk assessment and the rubric for the competition, both of which can be found at the Bowlathon menu tab. The match will be started by the Mayor of Andover, Cllr Linda Lashbrook, who will be bowling the first wood, and we expect plenty of media interest so come along with your best face on and look for yourself in the paper the following week!

If you're not bowling on the day, there's still something for you - around the green, and indeed on it, there will be a variety of stalls including a tombola, plants, refreshments and guess the name of the teddy, as well as other activities, including some bowls-related ones such as getting your wood nearest the jack. These will be set up both on the Saturday afternoon and the Sunday morning. It's perhaps a bit early to say, but the weather next weekend looks decent - being both warm and dry. So, what better way to kickstart your Bank Holiday weekend, and indeed your summer, than by spending some time in the sunshine up at the Club?

We are holding the event partly in aid of Club funds with our new Clubhouse in view, and partly in support of the Countess of Brecknock Hospice with which we will be splitting the proceeds from the event 50:50. Ahead of next Saturday, or if you can't make it on the day, do remember that our Just Giving page is open for your donations: please be as generous as you can in support of our bowlers on the day, but don't forget that every pound counts.
