Salisbury & District League
Andover Bowling Club is a founder member of this association, which was set up in 1914, alongside Shaftesbury and Salisbury. The association affiliates five other bowling clubs around Salisbury. There is a men’s league and a women’s league, but no divisions: all teams play each other home and away during the course of the season.
Each match in the men’s league consists of four triples and lasts 18 ends. In the women’s league, matches are constituted of three triples (three woods).
In the men’s league, matches are played on Mondays and Thursdays and all with a start time of 6.15; in the women’s league, matches are played mostly on Monday or Thursday evenings with one match taking place on a Saturday afternoon.
A separate trophy is awarded to the team featuring the highest winning triple during the season. For 2025, it's currently held by a Pewsey Reds triple who chalked up a 35-3 score against Pewsey Blue.
The full rules can be found here.
In the men’s league, Andover fields two teams. Each team has its own dedicated page which can be accessed via the menu above or via the following links:
Lions are currently third in the league, with six wins from eight games and just 1.5 points behind Salisbury, the league leaders. Eagles have had a tougher start and currently sit in sixth place with three wins, one of them this week against Lions.

Herbie Turner Cup
This competition exists for clubs affiliated to the Salisbury & District Association. Uniquely, it takes place between the teams drawn against each other home and away simultaneously: each team supplying two rinks which play at home and two which play away. A quick call at the end of the match between the team captains sees the scores totalled up and, if there is a tie in the scores, further ends are played.
In the first round matches, Eagles were drawn at home to Pewsey Reds, which took place on 31 May and which resulted in a win for the Eagles 77-61; while Lions beat Salisbury on 9 June on all 4 rinks, by 74-53.
Following the league match on Monday night (30 June) between the two teams, Eagles took on Lions in the semi-final (3 July) but were unable to repeat their success in the league match, Lions emerging triumphant and thus winning a place in the final against either Wilton or Amesbury (match scheduled for 25 July). The final is due to take place on Sunday 10 August.
