Andover Bowling Club hosted a highly successful and hugely enjoyable friendly yesterday afternoon (1 September) for Bowls Hampshire and the Gloucestershire Bowling Association.

What a successful day it turned out to be! A wonderful team of helpers all played a huge part: the car parking was expertly controlled; the welcome with coffee and tea by Martin & Judy; Tony handing over the green - which is in great condition and which received many compliments; Cynthia and David making sure the key for the park was collected and returned; Nickie doing a great job with a fund-raising raffle; and Val keeping everyone happy from the bar. On top of all that, the catering team were absolutely amazing – the applause received from the players for the meal and the comments afterwards were incredible: another brilliant job by Cathy and the team (special thanks to Sue's daughter Helen, who fitted in brilliantly!).

Said Sue Milton, Club Secretary, 'None of this would work without this brilliant team who all just get on with their jobs and make everything run smoothly'.

In further good news, Hampshire won with a shot score of 101-82.

The friendly comes on top of a number of matches being held at Andover this summer for bowlers of a very high standard within Hampshire looking to use the green as a neutral facility for inter-club competitive fixtures. Bowlers know that playing at Andover will provide a proper test of their abilities continually to read the green and adapt their games accordingly, and a place that will provide them with a smooth, well-covered surface where the bowl, delivered correctly, will travel to where the bowler requires.

The friendly helped promote the Club, with the comments and responses from county reps being uniformly and highly positive, and it cements our established reputation as being among the best greens in the county, with a level of welcoming hospitality that is second to none and catering that is not only of the highest quality, but which is provided and delivered with dedication, as well as a professional organisation bringing everything togther on the day. Great job, everyone!
