Kangaroo League
An Aussie Pairs event took place for the first time in 2025 as part of the Club's regular Saturday morning coaching sessions, with the aim of giving predominantly newer bowlers a taste of competition to help prepare them to represent the Club in our other teams. It was a huge success, with Hawks (Angie Aspinall, Steve Baulsom and John Horner) being the inaugural winners, triumphing over Merlins (Ady Aspinall and Ken Bulpitt) in the final.
For 2026, the newly named Kangaroo League has been established as a fun, but fully-fledged, club competition in which 12 teams battle it out on Saturday mornings over 14 ends under Aussie Pairs rules: two players per side from each team, each one playing lead and skip roles by virtue of the first of the pair bowling the first two and the last two woods on each end, the second bowling all four woods inbetween, and then swapping over for the next end. There are no trial ends and all woods count as from the first end. The winning team will be awarded a trophy.
The 12 teams are: Bilbies, Crocodiles, Dingos, Emus, Kangaroos, Koalas, Kookaburras, Platypuses, Quokkas, Tasmanian Devils, Wallabies and Wombats. The squads for each of the teams and the fixture list are in the .pdfs at the bottom of the page, as is the week-by-week league table. The season kicked off on 9 May; and there were games on 16 May, but there are no fixtures on 23 May (because of the Bowlathon) or on 30 May.
Most teams have three players but, owing to the sizable demand, some have four. Each team has a player familiar with Aussie Pairs rules. The final round of additions to the teams has now been made - do check the notice board in the Clubhouse for the final additions. Each team must elect a captain who will be responsible for making sure all players know when they are playing. Please note that, if a team fails to turn up or is one player short, they will forfeit the game.
All games should start at 11.00 am (unless told otherwise), and players should arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand, in club uniform (club (or white) shirt; navy below the waist). Completed scorecards must be placed in the box in the Clubhouse marked Aussie Pairs, and all equipment must be put away at the end of games (unless told otherwise).
