This year saw the George Hacking Trophy revamped from a 2-wood triples competition to a 3-wood triples format.

It attracted a strong field yesterday (8 June) down to Vigo Park with enough entrants to make up no fewer than ten triples, randomly drawn and then divided into two groups of five teams, each playing all the other teams in the group (thus, four games, each of six ends) during the first part of the day. The top two teams in each group went straight into the final.

Group A had the closest scoring between the teams, but Les Reeves, Dave Clipsom and Jon Gibson achieved 6 points, for three wins and a loss, winning their group. In Group B, scoring 8 points from winning all their games, were Sue Milton and Evan & Liz Lewens.

We were all set for a very close final; it was 5-3 to Sue's team going into the sixth and final end (Sue on lead, Liz at No. 2 and Evan at skip), while Les’s team (Jon at lead, Dave at No. 2 and Les at skip) scored 1 so the final score ended up as 5-4.

Wine prizes were presented to the runners-up and the winners, while a bottle of wine for winning the spider went to Diane Timms.

Cynthia Hamilton, Competition Secretary, commented 'Another very enjoyable day and the weather held for us, despite a few spots of rain at one point. It was especially lovely to see some of our newer bowlers taking part.'

Congratulations to the winning triple and to the runners-up, and to all those who turned up for a full, competitive and enjoyable day of bowls. The Trophy will be formally presented to the winning triple at the Club's Presentation Evening later in the year.
