Cathy and Elainne confirmed as hotshots

Cathy Hopwood and Elainne Piper, both bowlers at the Club, were today awarded formal recognition certificates for their achievement in recording a hotshot in a pairs match against two women from Romsey Bowling Club on 12 May.

A hotshot is where all the bowls delivered from one team count in the head - that is, in a pairs match, in which each bowler contributes four woods, an end score of 8-0. This is an astonishing outcome, requiring both skill, accurate and consistent delivery and tactical coordination to ensure that none of the opposing teams bowls count.

Sadly, Cathy and Elainne did not go on to win the match. Nevertheless, we are very proud of them both - as we know that they are of becoming members of what is a pretty exclusive club - a hotshot being rarely accomplished in competitive play. Well done both!
