On Sunday 16 August, Andrew Carnegie of Andover Bowling Club competed in the final of the Brookhouse Cup, the annual trophy competition for champion bowlers between bowling clubs affiliated to the Whitchurch and District Bowling League.

The final took place at the neutral venue of Marnell Bowling Club, Popley, Basingstoke, where Andrew faced Andy Lowe, of Hook Bowling Club. Andrew got off to an absolute flyer and was 10-0 up after 5 ends, and, while Andy thereafter came back strongly, Andrew proved irresistible, eventually winning by a score of 21-10.

This is the third time that Andrew has won the Brookhouse Cup, having won previously in 2022 and 2024. Chris Richardson, also then of Andover Bowling Club, won the title in 2023. This year, Andrew defeated five opponents on his way to the title, including our own Cindy McLaughlin, Andover Women’s Singles Champion in 2025, in the quarter final.

Well done, Andrew! This is an absolutely terrific result which keeps a perspective on Andover Bowling Club as being one of the top clubs in the area.

The Brookhouse Cup is open to representatives from all clubs who are members of the Whitchurch and District Bowling League, and each entrant should, where possible, be the current Club Men’s and/or Women’s Singles Champion. Ten clubs entered representatives in 2026, involving a total of eighteen successful champion bowlers. The competition is run as a knock-out singles competition, each round being decided by the first player to reach 21 shots.
