Aussie Pairs

An Aussie Pairs event took place for the first time in 2025 as part of the Club's regular Saturday morning coaching sessions. A variety of teams was formed, taking the names of UK raptors each with several members to cover for each other during periods of absence, each doing battle with the other teams throughout the season over eight ends for a new trophy presented by the Club. The competition was organised to give predominantly newer bowlers a taste of competition to help prepare them for representing the Club in our other teams in subsequent seasons; and was such a success that future competitions organised under Aussie Pairs rules will potentially feature in the Club's calendar again.

A semi-final and final was organised for the final Saturday of the outdoors season, on 20 September, with the inaugural winners of the Trophy being Hawks (Angie Aspinall, Steve Baulsom and John Horner), who triumphed 8-5 over Merlins (Ady Aspinall and Ken Bulpitt).

Do have a look at our news story on the day, alongside a report of a subsequent event sponsored by Mark and Trudy Slade of Flamed Earth Ceramics which took place also under Aussie Pairs rules on the following day.
