Finals Day 2024

Arguably the most eagerly-awaited day in the club's season, this year's Finals Day was to be held on Saturday 7 September, though the terrible weather the day before (i.e. today) has led to the programme for the day being postponed to allow the green to dry out and thus be playable.

However, on the basis that every cloud has a silver lining, if Finals Day was always going to be terrifically exciting, we can now double the excitement as Andover Bowling Club bring you now not one Finals Day, but two, the first on Thursday next (12 September); the second on Saturday (14 September).

The revised schedule for the days are as follows:

Thursday 12 September

1030 Ladies 2 Woods: Jackie Kingston v Cynthia Hamilton (marker: Sue Milton). Note: postponed (new date TBA)

1400 Women's Championship: Jackie Kingston v Sue Milton (marker: Cynthia Hamilton). Note: postponed (new date TBA)

1600 Pairs: Dave Clipsom and Mark Slade v Mick Corden and Roy Slydel

This was a keenly contested final delivered for the most part in sunny, if chilly, conditions, with all four bowlers delivering quality woods and contributing at different stages. Dave and Mark, however, moved into an early lead and they never relinquished it, moving inexorably further ahead as the game progressed. The 14th end was a cracker with several woods extremely close to the jack but, with Dave and Mark taking six shots out of Mick and Roy, and moving into a 21-5 lead with four ends to play, hail stopped play. Although it was quickly over, the green was soaked with surface water and Mick and Roy decided that the match situation was realistically too far gone to be rescued, and conceded. Congratulations to Dave and Mark; and commiserations to Mick and Roy. More photos are on the gallery page for this year's finals.

Saturday 14 September

1000 Handicap: Sue Mlton v Brad Godden (marker: Steve Baker)

1000 Novice Singles: Dave Taplin v John Cocks (marker: David Hamilton)

1100 Men's 2 Woods: Jim Carnegie v Andy Carnegie (marker: David Hamilton)

1400 Men's Championship: Brad Godden v Dave Taplin (marker: Steve Baker)

As with the original date, if you are not involved directly, please come along - your presence at the club and your support for all our excellent finalists, in what will be not one, but two, exciting days of quality bowling, will be much appreciate.
